The way of the heart.

January 22, 2017

Life is heart. No heart, no life. Mind is not life, thoughts are not life.
Mind is the outer heart, while heart is the core, the source. Everything is one, but we sense it differently.
Enlightenment is transcending the mind to access the intelligence of the heart. Its about the heart, not the mind. Heart is the root. Fix the heart, and everything else is just a consequence. A way to go. The way of the heart is the simple way to go as the world has become too complicated.
Mind is a tool like science, which can be manipulated by the quality of the heart. So, fix the heart. Warm-heartedness is a good start.
Enlightenment is the flowering of the heart.

Liberate your mind to access the heart, not control it.
Heart is grace, which is always in us. We just have to tap it. The last part is for mooji followers.

Two forces within.

January 22, 2017

There are two major aspects in you – one is the instinct of survival which is always holding you down, another is your longing to become boundless. That which is keeping this longing going is Grace. That which is constantly telling you, “That’s not safe, let’s do the safe thing,” is survival.

Sadhguru, with his unmatched clarity. From his blog post on grace titled “become a source of light”.
I see grace as heart which pushes you to a life beyond survival.

Dangal. A movie review. Hindi.

January 22, 2017

A great movie on the wrestling competition and on breaking the gender barriers, based on a true story.
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. Dangal best symbolises that quote.
Sultan was an entertaining movie and not really an sports movie. but dangal goes way beyond that. It is a pure sports movie, but made so perfectly that it captivates the nation with a great story telling and acting. The movie is also full of great one line humour. Aamir khan’s best movie ever.
Sports movie generally have a niche market, but this one transcended its limitation to appeal to everyone alike to become the highest grossing movie in hindi cinema, with the exception of south indian films like baahubali and kabali.
Dangal reminded me of aamir khan’s  another movie, lagaan, which was an equally patriotic movie about bringing glory to the nation, and this is where dangal has hit the perfect note and even exceeded lagaan.
Dangal is more of an inspiration and less of lecturing, as it doesnt really have any messages for the audience unlike 3 idiots, his another great movie.
Dangal is the story of one man’s unwavering dream to bring a glory to his nation through his daughters, as his own hope was dashed in his youth due to bleak conditions and was forced to compromise with his life’s passion.
This is the story of a strong will to succeed despite the lack of support from all levels, including his community and from the local govt authorities. He didnt let anything stop him. Where there is a will, there is a way. This is the message that people can take from this movie. Another message is about gender equality, which is not really a new message.
I also noticed the clash of traditional versus modern scientific methods, with the former triumphing, as the science can be too technical and less of a spirit.
I did cringe a bit at the harsh parenting treatment, but as one young bride painfully pointed out, that it was better than no treatment at all.
Dangal deserves to be watched in a theatre to get a true feel of the movie’s spirit. The difference is like watching a sports in stadium versus tv. Going alone is even better with less distractions.
I’ve followed up on the real life characters of dangal, and both the sisters and their cousin sister are targeting olympic medals in 2020 in tokyo, which i think will everyone be looking forward to. I certainly will. Time for india to stand out on all fronts.

Raising a child with a minimum restraints.

January 8, 2017

A child needs a maximum space and freedom to express himself, which bolsters his confidence, and makes him a healthy child in every way. Too much pressure and restrictions will make him weak. He’ll falter at every step. This is not the time for discipline yet. Nurture the seed first, to make a stronger plant. He is new to the world. Let him grow first and enjoy his childhood. You enjoyed your’s, let him enjoy theirs. Dont be in a hurry to turn him into another miserable adult, like so many out there. There is a scarcity of joyful beings on the planet. So, atleast let the child stay as one.
When i look at a child, i just see them as another person, who is new to the world, and yet to grow. Thats all. I see them as a flower bud, and i want to see it blossom into a full grown flower, in its fullest expression, without any restraint. I dont want them to go through the restraints that we all did.
The various religions says, treat others the way you like to be treated. This sums up my simple philosophical approach on child raising.
How do we feel when someone, whether its family or anyone, tries to put a restraint on us, by saying, dont do it or that we are not good enough for it?
We feel deeply hurt as it hurts our self esteem and lowers our confidence. Therefore, when we dont like any restraints on us, then how would others feel, especially a child, when we put restraints on them.
This is it. Treat others the way you like to be treated. Put yourself in the shoes of the others, to feel their sorrow and pain, to empathise. Put yourself in the shoes of the child to feel their pain.
Think of child like any other being, not a property or possession. So, treat them like you would like to be treated by others, with respect and honour. Their only fault is that they cannot voice their pain, except cry. And also that, they are new to the world, and not know what is right and wrong.
A child should be raised with a minimum restraint.
The child raising project should be child centric. Thats obvious. So, even if guests come over, a child should not be restrained. The ego should come later. The priority should be on the child, all the time, ‘cos his actions do not yet have the evils of malice and hate. If he creates some nuisances, he is still innocent, and the guests should be mature enough to understand how a child behaves.
There should be some tolerance to the antics of the child. Give him space and freedom to explore and express himself. Only interfere when his safety is at risk.
Teaching a etiquette should be kept to a minimum. A child is too small to understand the ways of the world, and is unnecessary. He shouldnt be concerned about society stuffs. He is just come to the world. Let him loose and be carefree. Let the child express himself to the fullest. Let the child enjoy his childhood. Dont take away these precious moments from him. Those maybe the only pleasant ones left after growing up. Let him have some good, carefree memories.
My dream is to see that no child is conditioned with any kind of beliefs. I want them to see the world through their own natural intelligence, and let them decide everything, without any contamination of conditioning. Our natural intelligence has this much capability.
A child will naturally have many questions. Answer them to the best of your capability. If you dont know, then admit that you dont know. As my guru says, there is a great wisdom in I do not know. All seeking arises from there, as our mind will naturally not rest till we find the right answer. Dont shape them with beliefs. If they didnt work for you, it will most probably not work for your children.
This dream of mine is also a contribution towards world peace. When there will be no beliefs system, there will no conflicts, resulting in peace. People will seek, not believe.
A child is delicate like a flower. Putting any restraints on them dont look appropriate and hampers their growth. They are not a pet to be leashed.
But it doesnt mean spoiling them or letting them climb on top of your head. Just see that they do not cross any line, but try to set minimum line. See that they maintain their innocence.

Only interfere when the contamination starts seeping in as they grow up.
A practical way to deal with a child.

We all know that children are good observer, which makes them a good imitator. It means that they can also observe your pain and sadness if you can interact fully and openly with them. A child also has a common sense, and he should stop repeating any actions which hurts your feelings. A sensible child will not cause a repeated pain like some maniac. Their innocence will be their virtue.
Non cooperation is the best way to deal with the child, without the use of violence, like gandhi.
I’m only showing the way without the need for threats or violence, which has unfortunately become a common practice. But it wont still be easy. You’ve to set aside your ego, and be on level terms with a child. Let him see you as just another being that he can relate to. A sincerety is needed for such honest relationship.
All these measures are idyllic and may not be considered. In the economy of the never ending trap and grinding of survival mode, many parents may not have time to consider all these suggestions, and that also from someone with no experience of parenthood. Maybe, somethings are best observed from the distance.
Whatever action you may take, the brunt will be felt by the child. They do not have the capacity to fend off for themselves yet.
Be a friend to them, not a threat. Authoritarian approach never works. They are used for supression, not for building bridges.

A child needs a friend, not a boss.
It is not my intention to judge anybody or show my superiority. It is just a natural response to the consequence of the ignorant action of the parents, which i think will have on the child and his delicate psychology, which will affect his whole life.
I’m only thinking of the child’s welfare, just like any parents would do, and i’m writing with only the children in mind, as to how to keep alive their joy and exuberance, and see that those qualities are not suppressed in ignorance.
I can relate to a child as I’m a child myself.

Dancing your heart out on new year’s eve.

December 31, 2016

Looking forward to dancing full out on new year’s eve. I see dance as a therapy where i can be myself and express myself. Actually, its more of getting in sync with the music and freeing your body and mind and then letting the music coarse through you.

A state where you as an ego disappear and your natural free spirit comes out. A blissful experience.
Everything is a stepping stone to the divine. Anything can be used for enlightenment, if you give your all fully, where you disappear and only the dance remains, for example. You make space for something else, for the divine within you. Ego can be greater than the world, and both the ego and divine cant coexist.
People take drugs for same purpose to disappear, but dont last long. Dance is the healthier way.
You can describe a thing from many ways, and same thing with the enlightenment, though i’m only inferring from some glimpses here and there.
Shiva is called nataraja, the lord of dance, for a reason. He embodies divine and also has a statue in nataraja form. Only the indian gods in the whole world are known for dance, with another great dancer being krishna and his raas leela in his childhood days.

History wise, mevlana rumi, the great sufi poet and an enlightened being, had his dance of whirling dervishes, called sema. Sufism is known for their offering of love to the divine through music. So did the great devotees of krishna, like meerabai and tulsidas. Music comes naturally with devotion.

Divinity has no limitations. Why deny or suppress something which is natural? I’m only talking spirituality here to make my points, and not about religion. They just happen to be connected. In essence, they are same. Becoming more than what you are right now. Becoming boundless.

I want to go and get some rhythm and nataraja moment going.
Dance is a free movement of hands and legs. It can be anyway. Feel the flow inside you. Be the dance.
Let this night be a blissful conscious night, not the unconscious one with drinks. Put a limit. Making memories and passing out dont go together.
Happy New Year. Welcome the new year with a new you.

I wanted to get a statue of nataraja, like the one, mooji has besides him during the satsang, but then i found out that it is not advisable to keep the statue of nataraja, as his dance of tandava symbolises the destruction of universe. So, better play safe. But positively speaking, shiva is known as destroyer, that is of ego.

Socrates triple filter against gossip.

December 21, 2016

One day, someone came up to him and said, “I want to tell you something about Diogenes.” Socrates said, “I have a simple principle. Whatever you want to say, you must put it through the triple filter.” The man asked, “What is this triple filter?” Socrates said, “First thing – whatever you’re going to tell me now, have you ascertained the truth?” The man said, “No. Someone just told me this.” Socrates said, “So it doesn’t pass the first filter. The second filter is, is it something nice?” “No, quite the contrary – that’s why I want to tell you this.” Socrates said, “Then it doesn’t pass the second filter either. Is it something useful?” The man said, “No, I don’t think it’s useful. I just want to tell you this.” Socrates said, “That means it doesn’t pass any of the filters.”

You should never take pleasure in someone else’s problems by gossiping about them.

Expectations, the biggest source of disappointment.

December 20, 2016

Expectations is the biggest source of disappointment. This has got to do with the other.
So, your happiness and sadness depends on others, which can never be stable and reliable. You become a slave to the external situations, which can sway your mind in any directions.
Your remote is in the hands of others.  Its an accident waiting to happen. You will be living by accidents, without any awareness. Anybody can press your raw nerve button and push you around. Only misery and sufferings.
The lesson here is to find happiness within yourself, which will save you lots of disappointment. Find your own security.
When you are happy from within, your happiness becomes firm and permanent, and nobody can take it away from you. Your happiness is not dependent on others. Your remote is in your hand. You are calm in every situation, no matter how stormy.
Just do your thing, but dont expect much from others. Or choose your close friends wisely.

As buddha says, make an island onto yourself.

Aspiration is similar to expectation, but its not necessarily for outer objects. So, aspire for your own joy and happiness, which is eternal.

Ignorance

October 14, 2016

Ignorance is there as long as you see god and everything else as a separate entity from yourself, and there is no experience of oneness.
Ignorance exists as long as the barrier of the duality(you and I) of the physical nature is not broken and merged into oneness, a yoga(union) of duality.
When you see everything as one or yourself, then where is the need to bow to anyone? You are that.
Background:

Standing in front of a buddha’s statue made me aware of my ignorant state, as i saw him as separate from me in my current state, and i told myself that i dont want to bow from that state again.

9 to 5: An intolerable imprisonment. J Krishnamurti.

October 10, 2016

QUESTION: The speaker has said that going to an office everyday from nine to five is an intolerable imprisonment. But in any society all kinds of jobs have to be done. Is K’s teaching therefore only for the few?
You have understood? Shall I read it again? The speaker has said that human society is so constructed throughout the world that most people are occupied with jobs, pleasant or unpleasant, from nine to five everyday of their life. And he said also that it is an intolerable imprisonment. I don’t know how you feel about it. Probably you like being in prison, probably you like your jobs from nine o’clock to five o’clock, rushing, rushing back and all the rest of it. What shall we do? To the speaker he wouldn’t tolerate it for a single minute – for the speaker. I would rather do something which would be pleasant, helpful and necessary to earn enough money and so on. But most of us accept this prison, this routine – right? We accept it. So what shall we do? Nobody, as far as one is capable of sufficient observation, nobody has questioned this. We say it is normal, it is the way of society, it is the way of our life, it is the way we must live. But if we all see together that such an imprisonment, which it is actually, that we all feel it is intolerable, not just verbally but actually do something about it we will create a new society – right? We will if all of us say we will not tolerate for a single day this routine, this monstrous activity of nine to five, however necessary, however good and pleasant, then we will bring about not only psychological revolution but also outwardly. Right? We may agree about this but will we do it? You might say, “No, I can’t do it because I have responsibility, I have children, I have a house and mortgage, insurance” – thank god I haven’t got any of those! And so you might say, “It is easy for you to talk about all this.” But it is easy for the speaker to talk about it because he refuses to go in that pattern. From boyhood he refused it.
Now if we all consider that such a psychological as well as physical revolution of this kind is necessary, not bloody and all the rest of it, then we will create the society – won’t we? You want others to create the society and you can then slip into it. That is what we are all waiting for. A few struggle, work, create, and refuse to enter into this rat race and the others say, “Yes, after you have constructed what you think is right society, then we all join you” – but we don’t do it together. That is the whole problem. Right? If we all had this, not idea but the fact, that to spend our life from nine o’clock to five o’clock probably before that, every day of our life for sixty years and more, we would do something about it. As if you refuse to have wars – you understand – wars, killing other people in the name of your country, your god, whatever the ideal is, if you all refused to kill another there would be no wars – right? But we have constructed a society, built a society, based on violence, armaments, each nation protecting itself against other nations, and so we are perpetuating wars, killing your sons, your daughters, everything. And we support it. In the same way we support, maintain this imprisonment. It may be pleasant for those who have an agreeable job but those who refuse to enter this game they will act, they will do something.
So the problem is, do we see the importance, or the necessity of this change? After all the human mind is not merely occupied with a particular job, pleasant or unpleasant. The human mind has the quality of other things which we disregard. We are concerned with the whole of life, not just a career, nine to five, how we live, what we do, what our thinking is, whether there is affection, care, love, compassion. All that is part of life. But we are so conditioned to this idea that we must work and create a structure of a society that demands that you work from morning until night. The speaker refuses to pay into that rat race. It isn’t that he has got certain gifts or that somebody will look after him, but he refuse.
My thoughts:

This is something that I’ve always tried to grasp. Why are things the way it is and how can it be changed? I’ve reservations against everything in the world, which is the way of the sheep. People blindly following the ways of society, the way of economy.

People devoting most of their life to a mind numbing job, to provide some material security for their family, and not seeking what our soul truly yearns.

The whole thing is one big trap, the illusion of life, which ultimately means nothing, ‘cos human life is a precious opportunity to break the relentless cycle of life after life, and thus this great opportunity should not be wasted for some some survival related professions. Even animal with no sophisticated human mind, can survive. Therefore, we need to go beyond survival and the animal narure.
